Re Orientation, Re Energize. 21-31 July.
Need somewhere warm and dry to hang out over lunchtime? Try the CPSA Student Centre, the big yellow building which has the café in it. Lunchtimes can be a bit of a bore, so to help make the hour between classes bearable the CPSA has organised Re Orientation “Re Energize”. 12-1pm in the CPSA Student Centre. These cold days need warming up so we are giving you BBQs, bands and will brew up some mulled wine to keep you warm.
The Centre is a great place to meet up with your friends and occasionally you will get free food. Every Wednesday over winter the CPSA has their “Free Hot Soup Day”. This is provided by the Executive of the CPSA, representatives from the student body. They give up their time to serve you in more ways than one.
The student centre also has a free pool table for you to use.
So Re Energise and get into the spirit of Re Orientation. Here's whart is left for the rest of the week....
Wednesday 30 July. City Campus The Deceivers Young electro-funksters The Deceivers are playing at CPIT Trades campus on the 29th of July. The Deceivers are four boys with instruments, a hunger, a stunning live show and more energy than the Niagara Falls in monsoon season. This unique combination saw them win the University of Canterbury's Student Association's Battle of the Bands. Their sound has evoked descriptions of "dirty and dubby" to "like bathing with a toaster on 10". In recent months they have enjoyed success on the radio front, with their first single 'Basement Funk' spending 7 weeks in the RDU Top Ten. This has been supported by the release of a 7 track EP, 'As of Lately'. The boys cite Daft Punk, Foals, LCD Soundsystem and RHCP as the reason they play music.
The band formed in 2005, initially flirting with distortion pedals and leather shoes before settling in to the world of band-costume arts and crafts. Having performed shows dressed as caterpillars, Mexicans, the Bain family and in head to toe L.E.D body suits, The Deceivers have spent as much time bonding over tea and knitting as they have on stage. This bottled up energy will be unleashed on the Trades Campus.
